Hudson Valley Renegades defeat Auburn 12-4

Hudson Valley RenegadesThe Game: The Hudson Valley Renegades defeated the Auburn Doubledays 12-4 on Sunday at Falcon Field. The Renegades scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back. Chris Murrill singled to lead off the inning, then advanced to second on a ground out by Diogenes Luis. Murrill later stole third and then advanced home on an RBI single by Dustin Biell. Tyler Bortnick followed by drawing a walk. Biell and Bortnick then pulled a double steal and Biell then scored on an error. David Genao drove home Bortnick for the final run of the inning and the Renegades took a 3-0 lead.

Auburn scored two runs in the second inning. Sean Ochinko led off the inning with a double and then score on an RBI double by Yan Gomes. Then later in the inning, Brad Glenn doubled to score Gomes and bring the Doubledays to within a run of the lead.

Hudson Valley added three more runs in the fourth inning. Bennett Davis doubled to start the inning, then stole third. Gabe Cohen followed with an RBI double to score Davis. Cohen later scored on an error on the DJ Jones ground ball to short. Chris Murrill drove home Cohen as the Renegades increased their lead to 6-2.

The Renegades offense struck for four more runs in the seventh inning. Dustin Biell led off the inning with a triple to right. Tyler Bortnick was hit by a pitch and then stole second. David Genao was intentionally walked to load the bases for the Renegades. Bennett Davis followed with a two run double to score Biell and Bortnick. DJ Jones plated two more runs with a single to center and the Renegades now led 10-2.

Hudson Valley scored two more runs in the eighth inning. Dustin Biell walked to get things started. Tyler Bortnick followed with an RBI double to score Biell. Bortnick later scored on an RBI single by Bennett Davis and as the Renegades increased the lead to 12-2.

The Doubledays scored two more runs in the bottom of the eighth on a two run home run by Sean Ochinko. But it wasn’t enough as the Renegades cruised to a 12-4 victory.

Aaron Dott pitched 2 1/3 innings and allowed 2 runs on 5 hits with 3 strikeouts. Kevin Chavez earned the win, pitching 3 2/3 innings and not allowing a run on 3 hits with 2 strikeouts. Angel Chapa made a 2 inning appearance and allowed 2 runs on 2 hits with a strikeout and a walk. Zach Quate pitched a shutout inning to close the game with a hit and 2 strikeouts. Evan Crawford was the losing pitcher for Auburn.

What Went Right: Dustin Biell; 3 for 4 with a triple, RBI and 3 runs scored along with a stolen base.

What Went Wrong: Mayobanex Acosta; struck out twice and was the only Renegade not to record a hit, reached base once on a walk.

A Look Ahead: The Renegades are off on the all-star break until Wednesday. The New York-Penn League All-Star Game will be played on Tuesday night in State College
