Hudson Valley Renegades avoid sweep by shutting out Tri-City 2-0

Hudson Valley RenegadesThe Game: The Hudson Valley Renegades avoided the sweep by Tri-City Valley Cats by defeating them 2-0 on Thursday night at Joe Bruno Stadium. Both teams battled through a scoreless draw until the eighth inning when the Renegades struck for their first run of the night. Dustin Biell doubled to lead of the inning, followed by a single by Diogenes Luis. Tyler Bortnick moved both runners into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. Then Mayobanex Acosta drove home a run with a sacrifice fly to put the Renegades ahead 1-0.

The Renegades added a run to their lead in the ninth. DJ Jones singled to second to get things started. Then Jones stole second and then third. Diogenes Luis followed with an RBI single to score Jones and give the Renegades a 2-0 win.

Kyle Lobstein earned the win by pitching 7 scoreless innings only allowing 4 hits while striking out 4 and walking 2. Bladimir Florentino followed with a no hit eighth inning with a strike out. Then Zachary Quate came on for the save, only allowing 1 hit. Mike Modica was the losing pitcher for Tri-City.

What Went Right: Pitching; pitchers combined for a 5 hit shutout with 5 strikeouts.

What Went Wrong: David Genao; 0 for 4 with 2 strikeouts.

A Look Ahead: The Renegades will take on the Auburn Doubledays on Friday night in the first of three games at Falcon Park. Alexander Colome (5-1) will pitch against Matt Wright (1-0).
