Durham Bulls 6, Rochester Red Wings 1The Bulls offenses used sixteen hits to score six runs as they cruised to a victory over the Red Wings 6-1. Brandon Allen, Leslie Anderson and Reid Brignac each had three hits on the evening. Matt Mangini had a solo homer. Brignac drove home three runs. Evan Longoria had a setback in his rehab assignment as he departed early with discomfort. Jim Paduch was the winner while Ryan Reid recorded the save.
Palm Beach Cardinals 5, Charlotte Stone Crabs 4 The Stone Crabs rallied late to tie the game but a squeeze play in the top of the ninth doomed the Stone Crabs as they lost 5-4. The Stone Crabs found themselves in an early hole, trailing 3-0 in the second. They slowly battled back, using a two run eighth to tie the game. But the suicide squeeze by the Cardinals in the ninth would be the difference. Phil Wunderlich was 3 for 4 with a double and 3 runs scored. Chris Murrill was 2 for 4 in his return to the Rays organization. Nate Garcia was charged with the loss.
Hudson Valley Renegades 7, Aberdeen Iron Birds 3The Renegades offense provided twelve hits to lead them to a 7-3 victory over Aberdeen on opening day. The Renegades took an early lead and never looked back. Leonardo Reginatto was a perfect 4 for 4 on the night. Joel Caminero, Justin O'Conner and Jake DePew each had a double. Jeff Ames earned with win, striking out 5 in 5 innings. Matt Spann, Ian Kendall and Marcus Jensen chipped in with 4 scoreless innings of relief.
GCL Rays 3, GCL Red Sox 2The GCL Rays opened up the 2012 season with a win over the Red Sox. The Rays were led by the trio of rehabbing arms in Nick Barnese, Chris Andujar and Lenny Linsky. The Rays scored twice in the first inning to take the lead. The Red Sox battled back to tie the game using a pair of one run innings. The Rays regained the lead in the fourth and held off the Red Sox the rest of the way to secure the one run win. Miguel Beltran, Armando Araiza and Leopoldo Correa each had two hits. Jiminson Natera had a double. Barnese earned the win and Linsky the save.
VSL Tigers 7, VSL Rays 6The Rays left a four run lead get away from them as they fell to the Tigers 7-6 on Monday afternoon. The Tigers scored twice in the first inning to take an early lead. The Rays took the lead in the fourth inning by scoring three runs. They added to their lead with two more runs in the fifth and another in the seventh to extend the lead to 6-2. But the Rays allowed five runs in the last two innings as they lost 7-6. Jose Paez and Jhonnathan Teran each had two hits. Iago Januario hit a two run homer. Johan Marvel suffered the loss for the Rays.
DSL Mariners 6, DSL Rays 2The DSL Rays rallied to tie the game but gave up four runs in the ninth to suffer the loss. The Rays found themselves down 2-0 at the end of the first inning. They slowly battled back, scoring in the fifth and the seventh to tie the game. But the Mariners scored four times in the ninth to give the Rays a 6-2 loss. Cristian Toribio and Enmanuel Paulio each had two hits. Alexander Simon had a triple. Ruben Paredes suffered the loss.
Is anyone else annoyed that the Minor League Affiliates page on mlb.com no longer has a scoreboard?

GCL Rays win again today 3-2, trailed 2-1 when I got there and then gave up no more runs while being handed a couple to win it.
ReplyDeleteHavlicek threw 4 pretty impressive relief innings, followed by Blaise & Carlson finished up.
Ceasr Perez now a 1B, probably a good move. Araiza is a C instead of DH as listed on the roster. Just for accuracy and all.
First impressions: I like Natera, Duran, Kline had a couple hits and played a decent SS.
Several had to be encouraged to run through the base on routine plays and/or popups, it is a learning process to go from star to starting over.
Thanks Jim, love reading these. Jesus Araiza was a catcher in the DSL last year, so figured he would be for GCL. He showed some pop in DSL, took some walks too, which isn't common.

DeleteIt was a pretty windy day, so several misjudgments in the OF as the new guys adjust to new parks and positions. Seemes like good communication out there though, a great thing with a new collection of players.
DeleteEierman made a big mistake in the fifth, with bases loaded and one out there was a wild pitch that scored the go-ahead run and the pitcher never covered home. So Johnny rounded third and made an aggreassive move toward the plate, but then could not get back and was thrown out. With your #4 hitter coming up and one out in a close game that is a little too aggressive and resulted in the second out. And that ended the scoring for the day.
Araiza has impressed me as well, I actually thought he might be at Princeton and Oscar here, but not how it worked out.
And I did forget my camera, will try to remember it on Thursday.
