Game Pictures from 5/20: Extended Spring Training Rays at Orioles

I was able to catch a portion of my first extended spring training game during lunch yesterday.

The first game had Juniel Querecuto, Justin O'Conner, Cesar Perez, Deshun Dixon, Felix Gonzalez, Henry Rodriguez, Cesar Guillen, Brian Bryles, Chris Winder and Ian Kendell on the mound. Perez had a two run homer to left field. Baserunning was not sharp, not sure if they were trying stuff out or players were missing the signals, but there were quite a bit of players getting caught in rundowns after rounding first.

The second game was Gerardo Olivares, Daryl George, Ariel Soriano, Tanner Biagini, Keith Castillo, Lucas Montero, Leonardo Reginatto, Drew Vettleson, Jeff Malm, Josh Sale with Jason McEachern and Hunter Hill on the mound. McEachern looked sharp during the brief time I saw him, he seemed to be locating his pitches well. Vettleson and Sale both hit triples in the same inning.

This was my first extended spring game and I was only able to see each hitter hit once. My observations above are just what I saw during this small sample and may not be indicative of the players progress overall in the game or camp, I can't make a determination of how a player is doing based on one at-bat or two innings on the mound.

Here is a slideshow of photos from the game.

  2. Sale looks like an animal. Eh who needs all the levels, call him up to the bigs!

  3. Your welcome. I took about 150 photos in the short time I was there, but only posted the better ones. If there is anyone in particular that you are looking for, let me know who and a contact e-mail and I will send them to you.

The vantage point for Twin Lakes is not that good for photos, I am too short to shoot over the baseline fences so I am stuck behind home plate, not my preferred location to shoot from.

  5. Hey Jim, thanks for taking time out to do this. It's really nice to see pictures of some of our prospects (especially ones like Sale, Vettleson, O'Connor).

  6. Awesome pics, Jim.

George is Daryl George, the Australian 3B we signed last summer.

  7. Wow, nice job Jim, you captured just about everyone in XST! First pics I've seen of Darryl George in this hemisphere too. Wonder who Henry Rodriguez is? Maybe Junior changed his name, because the only Henry I can remember was in the VSL 4 or 5 years ago. Anyway, great shots.

  8. Thank Kevin, I did not have George on any of my rosters and could not find him on MiLB.

Doug, you are right. It is not Henry, it was Hector. Typo on my behalf, I put He Rodriguez on my notes and put the wrong name down when I tagged it, I am fixing it now.

Michael, I put in the commentary above my observations while I was there. It was not long enough to make any real determinations on how someone is progressing.

  9. I, too, thank you for posting this article and pictures. Any word on Rob Dickmann, Jason McEachern, Hunter Hill, Will Kline, Wilking Rodriguez, Albert Suarez, Richard De Los Santos-(is rehabbing there)? How are they coming along? Any predictions where/when they will be placed on a team?

  10. Ok, Hector then. He's played 1B and a little C the past 2 seasons for the DSL Rays. DOB: 11/5/89.

Darryl George is a righthanded hitting 3B, DOB 3/14/93. We signed him out of Australia. Probably headed to GCL Rays since he's just over 18.

  12. Great to see these guys. Sale and Vettleson both look slimmer and more athletic than I was picturing.
