Rays Organization Minor League Players of the Month for May

Stephen Vogt of the Charlotte Stone Crabs was named the hitter of the month and Jeremy Hellickson of the Durham Bulls was the pitcher of the month.

Vogt has been part of Charlotte's explosive heart of the order. Vogt hit .404 with 4 doubles, 1 triple, 2 home runs and 10 RBI's during the month with a slugging of .635. During this time, he held a franchise high 17 game hitting streak that began on April 23 and lasted until May 23. His performance has earned him a trip to the Florida State League All-Star game as one of the eight representatives from the Stone Crabs.

Vogt was drafted by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in Round 12 of the 2007 Draft out of Azusa Pacific University. He was with the Stone Crabs in 2009 but missed most of last season with a shoulder injury.

Hellickson continues to make his name known and moving closer to a call-up to Tampa Bay with another month of solid pitching. For the month of May, Hellickson was 4-2 with a 2.43 ERA and 40 strikeouts. He is throwing a 2.28 ERA for the season and holds a International League best 8-2 record. Hellickson earned his second International League Pitcher of the Week award for his performance during the last week of the month.

Hellickson was drafted by the Rays organization in Round 4 of the 2005 Draft. This is his second season at AAA and is still awaiting the call to help the big club.

  1. That is why I like that hs kid we got in the 5th round. I think he could be a steal like Hellickson was.

  3. Hellickson would be on any other teams major league staff. The rays are going to have to make some tough decision at the end of the season
