Hudson Valley Renegades rally to beat Aberdeen 7-4

The Game: The Hudson Valley Renegades battled back from a four run deficit to defeat the Aberdeen Ironbirds 7-4 on Saturday night at Ripken Stadium. The Ironbirds led off the second inning with a single by Justin Dalles to left followed by a walk issued to Brian Conley. Tom Edwards singled to right to load the bases. Dalles scored the first run of the inning on a wild pitch by Devin Fuller. Steven Bumbry was then hit by a pitch to reload the bases for Aberdeen. Michael Mooney followed with a single to score Conley and Edwards scored after a walk issued to Tyler Kelly, giving the Ironbirds a 3-0 lead.

Aberdeen posted another run in the third as Justin Dalles reached on and error and Richard D Oleo on a walk to start the inning. Garabez Rosa singled to center to score Dalles and increase the Ironbirds lead to 4-0.

The Renegades began their climb to the top in the fourth inning. Tyler Bortnick reached on an error to get the inning started. Bortnick stole second and then advanced to third on a fly ball by Mark Thomas. Eli Sonoqui drove home Bortnick for the Renegades first run of the game.

The Renegades scoring run continued into the fifth. Dustin Biell was hit by a pitch to get the inning started and then advanced to third on a single by Diogenes Luis. Tyler Bortnick doubled to score Biell. Then Luis scored on a passed ball to pull the Renegades to within one run 4-3.

Hudson Valley tied the game in the sixth inning. Elias Otero singled to left but was out trying to stretch it into a double. David Genao reached on an error to follow. DJ Jones then tripled to right to score Genao and tie the game.

The Renegades offense kept producing runs, taking the lead in the seventh. Tyler Bortnick singled to left then advanced to third on a throwing error on a pickoff attempt. Eli Sonoqui followed with a single to center that score Bortnick and gave the Renegades a one run lead.

The Renegades added some insurance in the form of a run in the eighth and again in the ninth. The run in the eighth came of an RBI triple by Dustin Biell to score DJ Jones. Elias Otero double to score Mark Thomas in the ninth to give Hudson Valley the 7-4 win.

Devin Fuller started the game for Hudson Valley, pitching 3 innings and allowing 4 runs on 4 hits while striking out 4 and walking 3. Doug Salinas earned the victory by throwing 3 no hit innings with 3 strikeouts. Bladmimir Florentino picked up the save with 3 shutout innings, allowing 1 hit while striking out 4. Jacob Smith was the losing pitcher for Aberdeen.

What Went Right: Dustin Biell; fell a home run shy of the cycle by going 3 for 4 with a double, triple, an RBI and a run scored. Doug Salinas; three no hit innings with three strikeouts in the winning effort.

What Went Wrong: Gabe Cohen; 0 for 3 with 2 K’s.

A Look Ahead: The Renegades return home to Dutchess Stadium kicking off a two game series against the Brooklyn Cyclones (27-16). Kyle Lobstein (1-3) will get the start
