Hudson Valley Renegades lose to Lowell Sprinners 10-1

The Game: The Hudson Valley Renegades avoided the shut-out but lost the game to the Lowell Spinners 10-1 on Tuesday night at Dutchess Stadium. The Spinner struck in the first inning and never looked back. Wilfred Pichardo led off the inning with a bunt for a single, then stole second. Derrik Gibson singled to center to give the Spinners runners on the corners. Then the Spinners pulled the double steal, Gibson stole second while Pichardo stole home. Pichardo was safe at the plate and the Spinners took a 1-0 lead.

Lowell added to their total in the second as Michael Almanzar reached on an error to lead off the inning. Daniel Butler followed with a single to short. Joantoni Garcia then cleared the bases with a three run home run to put Lowell ahead 4-0.

The Spinners kept the offense rolling into the third inning as they plated three more runs in the inning. Derrick Gibson reached on error to start the second. Followed by a double to right field by Ryan Westmoreland. Chris McGuiness homered to right to increase the Spinners lead to 7-0.

Lowell scores solo runs in the fifth and sixth innings to further increase their lead. Ronald Bermudez scored in the fifth assisted by a fielding error by the Renegades. Then Wilfred Pichardo scored in the sixth on another error by the Renegades as Lowell now led 9-0.

The Renegades scored their one and only run of the night in the seventh inning. Mark Thomas led of the inning with a single to left field, then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Thomas advanced to third on yet another wild pitch then scored on an RBI single by Brett Nommensen keeping the Renegades from being shut-out.

The Spinners put their final run on the scoreboard in the ninth inning as Wilfred Pichardo delivered an RBI single to center field that scored Alex Hassan and gave the Spinners the 10-1 margin of victory.

Jason McEachern was charged with the loss, allowing 7 runs (only 3 earned) off 8 hits in only 2 innings pitched while recording 2 strikeouts. Jordi Amargos followed by pitching 4 innings and allowing 2 runs (0 earned) on 1 hit while striking out 2 and walking 1. Doug Salinas pitched 1 shut-out inning allowing 1 hit and striking out 1. Glen Gibson completed the final 2 innings and allowed 1 unearned run on 4 hits with 2 strikeouts and 1 walk. Tom Ebert was the winning pitcher for Lowell.

What Went Right: Mark Thomas; 2 for 4 with a run scored and threw out 1 base stealer.

What Went Wrong: Errors; Renegades committed a season high 6 errors on the field, Bennett Davis was responsible for 4 of the errors and the other 2 were charged to Diogenes Luis.

A Look Ahead: The Renegades take on the Spinners in game two of the series on Wednesday night at Dutchess Stadium. Kevin Chavez (0-0) will start for Hudson Valley facing Yeiper Castillo (3-1)
