Charlotte Stone Crabs lose to Fort Myers Miracle

Charlotte Stone CrabsThe Game: The Charlotte Stone Crabs lost to the Fort Myers Miracle 7-1 on Friday night at Charlotte Sports Park. The Miracle got started in the first inning as Ben Revere led off the game by drawing a walk. Revere then advanced to third on a single by Estarlin De Los Santos. Then Revere scored on a wild pitch to put the Miracle ahead 1-0.

The Miracle increased their lead in the third. Jair Fernandez and Chris Cates led off the inning with back to back singles. Then Estarlin De Los Santos hit into a force out, leaving the Miracle with runners on the corners. Evan Bigley drove home the first run of the inning with an RBI single to score Fernandez. Then Chris Parmelee cleared the bases with a three run homer to increase the Miracle lead to 5-0.

Fort Myers posted two more runs in the fifth inning. Chris Parmelee drew a walk and Joe Benson was hit by a pitch to put two runners on the bases for the Miracle. Then Mark Dolenc hit a two run double to give the Miracle a commanding 7-0 lead.

The Stone Crabs avoided the shut-out by putting a run on the scoreboard in the home half of the ninth. Shawn Williams doubled to lead of the inning and then advanced to third on a ground ball by Reid Fronk. Ian Paxton delivered a sac fly to score Williams for the Stone Crabs only run of the night.

Jeremy Hall was charged with the loss, allowing 7 runs on 6 hits while striking out and walking 4. Jose Mejias pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings and gave up 3 hits while striking out 1. Steve Hirschfeld earned the win for Fort Myers.

What Went Right: Shawn Williams; 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored.

What Went Wrong: Henry Wrigley; 0 for 4 with 3 K’s.

A Look Ahead: The Stone Crabs and Miracle face off again on Saturday night at Charlotte Sports Park. Brian Flores (1-5) with pitch against Michael Tarsi (3-3) in the battle of the lefties.

  1. Didn't these same two teams play Thursday with the oppisite result? You miss a lot of those games don't you Mr. Donten, with your keyboard and your camera too!

  3. Ummm, I assumed the first post was some sort of inside joke with or dig at Jim. If it wasn't then I agree with the second post.

  4. In response to Annon 1....I do happen to miss more games in photos than I would like. I wish I could attend all the home games and close road games in their entirety, but work and family makes that difficult. As for in print...I have a game recap for all games including the win from Thursday, it was just delayed along with the final St. Lucie game due to my internet being down.     Just seems like every game I go to lately has been a loss.
