Rays Sign NDFA RHRP Moshier

In addition to all of the new players from the draft, the Rays will sign several non-drafted free agents this month. The first reported NDFA signing is RHRP Alex Moshier out of Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas:
Moshier, a right-handed pitcher who was SFA’s closer, said the call came as a surprise because the Rays were not one of the teams that had contacted him before the draft.

After not getting drafted in the MLB draft, which concluded Wednesday, Moshier was planning to play in an independent league if a Major League team didn’t sign him.

Moshier had a 2.19 earned run average with nine saves and 34 strikeouts in 37 innings of work. He said the Rays plan to use him as a two-inning reliever.
- He will join the GCL Rays next week.

- Opponents batted .181 against him in 2012 and .097 in 2011.

- 23 years old, listed at 6'0", 190 pounds.

- Was an All- District catcher in baseball and quarterback in football at Nederland High School, also named to the Academic All-District Team as a junior and senior.

  1. Saw him pitch in Albuquerque a few months ago, looked like a good arm, glad to see him with the Rays.
