Tampa Bay Extends Player Development Contract with Biscuits Through 2014

The Tampa Bay Rays announced Thursday that they have extended their player development contract with the Montgomery Biscuits through 2014. The Biscuits have been the AA affiliate of the Rays for the past 7 years. In that time, over 200 players have come through Montgomery with 36 of them reaching the Rays. The Biscuits have won back to back league titles in 2006 and 2007.

The Biscuits have been a Rays affiliate since their inaugural year in 2004. But the history of the franchise dates back to 1973. Originally located in Orlando, they joined the league as a Twins affiliate in 1973 and remained with them until 1992. They then were affiliated with the Cubs from 1993-1997. There was a one year affiliation with the Mariners in 1998. They began their partnership with Tampa Bay in 1999. The franchise was relocated to Montgomery in 2004 and renamed the Biscuits.
