Leading off and playing center field...

Desmond JenningsIt's Desmond D. Jennings! He made his debut yesterday in the AFL for the Javelinas going 0-3 with two walks and a strikeout. Surprisingly he attempted to steal second after one of the walks but the batter fouled off the pitch. Guess the shoulder is healed. Jennings is on the taxi squad so he will only play in two games per week.

Elsewhere in the winter leagues Hector Gimenez and Ben Hendrickson have begun playing in the Venezuelan Winter League. Gimenez has gone 0-7 with a walk and a strikeout for the Tigres de Aragua. Hendrickson pitched four innings in relief for the Leones del Caracas, allowing no ER's on three hits with six strikeouts and a walk.

  1. I really like Jennings, when he's healthy of course. I hope next year he can be injury free next year. Do you think he starts at AA or A+? Vero seems likely because he missed almost the whole year but you never know.

  2. Best bet is that he'll start at A+ Port Charlotte in 2009, and if he performs well, a mid-season promotion to Montgomery makes sense. I think the Rays will be happy if he plays in 120 games.
