Site Note: We're Liveblogging Opening Day On Thursday

As most of the minor league rosters are out, the anticipation builds. When the season finally starts on Thursday, we'll be live-blogging all the action beginning at 6 pm or so. The Rays play an afternoon game in Chicago that day, so if you follow the big league team fervently this won't conflict with their schedule. We hope you join us, here's the opening day info:

Durham Bulls @ Gwinnett Braves 7:05 ET
Richard De Los Santos is the probable starting pitcher

Montgomery Biscuits vs. Birmingham Barons 8:05 ET
Strikeout king Matt Moore will be on the mound

Charlotte Stone Crabs vs. Bradenton Marauders 6:30 ET
Alex Colome should get the start

Bowling Green Hot Rods @ Dayton Dragons 7:00 ET
Enny Romero gets the opening day nod

I'll be around from the first pitch to the last (assuming my internet doesn't go down randomly, been having some problems with that) and I believe Doug will be stopping by as well. Here's a link to last year's version; the format will be the same. Let us know in the comments what you'd like to see on opening night!

  1. I'll put up an All Questions Answered post Thursday morning where everyone can ask us... well anything about the minor leaguers. We'll keep the list of questions handy and answer them during the live blog.

  2. If Moore controls his stuff from day one this year, does he end up with 250+ K's?

  3. I'll be there!

Archie, I am going to say yes. I am going to say he misses it by around 5 Ks.

  4. I didn't realize the Rays were a day game, but that is great news! Looks like I will be in Pt Charlotte on Thursday!

  5. Moore > 250 K's = no. Moore was the first milb pitcher with even 200 strikeouts since 2005 when Francisco Liriano did it. So odds are great he won't hit 200 again, let alone 250. Some of that is the Rays depth and slow promotions, in other orgs a guy who can k 200 gets promoted and into mlb, Rays take their time and have plenty of pitching ahead of Moore. But even so 250 isn't happening, 200 again wouldn't be a surprise, but it will take some luck/health and continued dominance. Hope he does.

Did you know that Moore not only led all of minor league ball in strikeouts in 2009 and 2010, but also led all of milb in K/9 in 2008? True.

  6. Here's a serious question: does anyone care about the standings for each of the ten teams on the sidebar? I've been doing these (almost) daily for 3 seasons and I'm not looking forward to a 4th. Takes a lot of time I could use for regular content. I like them, handy to see all the teams in one place, but is it worth the work? Let me know...

  7. Maybe we could shrink the standings to just the record of the Rays affiliates? Something like:

    Montgomery Biscuits 24-20 2nd Place 3.5 GB

  8. I do like the standings, but just maybe providing the link that can be clicked on to check them seems like it should be plenty. That's my opinion anyhow.
