2011 MLB Draft Schedule

In what could be the greatest infusion of talent in the organization's history, the 2011 MLB draft is now less than six weeks away. The Rays will choose 60 players over the three-day event, including 12 by the end of the 2nd round. Our coverage over the next few weeks will focus on possible Rays selections from the high school and college ranks.

Officially known as the First-Year Player Draft, the 2011 edition will be held June 6th-8th in Secaucus, New Jersey. Selections will begin at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 6th, carried live on the MLB Network and MLB.com. There will be a total of 60 picks the first night over the first and supplemental first rounds, with teams having five minutes between picks in the first round and one minute during the supplemental round.

The Rays first pick is at number 24 overall, which should occur around 9 p.m. if each team uses the allotted five minutes. The Rays have an incredible 10 of the 60 total picks the first night. The rest of the Rays Monday picks are numbers 31, 32, 38, 41, 42, 52, 56, 59 and 60.

The draft continues at noon on Tuesday, June 7th, with rounds 2-30. Coverage will be available on MLB.com. Rounds 31-50 will begin at noon on Wednesday, June 8th, again on MLB.com.

  1. Monday night is going to be fun trying to dig up info on all these guys while two more picks are added to the queue. Not sure what my plan is for Tuesday. I love listening to the draft and posting all the info here, but we'll have to see how it goes with me having work.

  2. Last year was pretty fast-paced, at least the 2nd and 3rd days, can't imagine what Monday night is going to be like.

I should be able to handle posting the picks on Tuesday and Wednesday, at least until 3 pm or so and then again that evening.
