Rays Sign 3 Minor League Free Agents

Tampa Bay RaysPer Marc Lancaster, the Rays have signed three minor league free agents. The Rays re-signed Jeremy Cummings, who put up a tRA+ of 120 (2.87 ERA) in 14 starts for Durham (AAA) last year. At 32, he's not a prospect but he can fill a rotation slot for Durham again next year.

The Rays also re-signed Chris Richard, who batted .293/.375/.546 (wOBA+ of 118) for Durham last year. He's also not a prospect at 34, but is a productive AAA bat.

The third player signed also has past ties to the Rays organization. Jason Childers made the Rays 2006 Opening Day roster after being a non-roster invite to Spring Training. He went 0-1 with a 4.70 ERA in 5 games with Tampa before being optioned to Durham on 4/21/06. In 2008 he was a reliever for Charlotte (AAA) in the White Sox organization. He put up a 1.22 ERA (tRA+ of 157) in 50 appearances (59.0 IP) and collected 17 saves. He'll turn 34 in January but provides bullpen depth for Durham, and possibly Tampa, next year.

  1. Awesome work guys, I will keep in touch with you in February FWIW.

Apparently Status Quo is how the Rays are working right now with the Minor Lgs.
