Minor Moves: Powell, Cortez, Perez, Querecuto

Montgomery Biscuits[Via email from the Montgomery Biscuits' broadcaster Jon Laaser.]

The Tampa Bay Rays have made the following moves affecting the roster of Double-A Montgomery prior to Monday night’s game against Birmingham:

OF Pedro Powell activated from the Hudson Valley (Short-A) roster, INF Fernando Cortez placed on the Temporarily Inactive List [24 + 1].

Cortez is placed on the Temporarily Inactive List due to a death in the family. He is expected to be away from the team for three days.

The corresponding moves leave the Biscuits with the Southern League maximum of 24 active players. One player (Jason Perry) is currently on the Disabled List and one (Cortez) is on the Temporarily Inactive List.

[Doug]: The Rays also made two Venezuelan signings according to Ben Badler at BA, 3B Cesar Perez and SS Juniel Querecuto:
Perez, who is around 6-foot-2, 180 pounds stands out for his offensive potential. Querecuto isn’t as big as Perez and doesn’t have his projectable power, but he runs and throws well and has good feel for the game.
I've heard various reports that Perez, 16, received a $1,000,000 signing bonus.
