Montgomery Biscuits Lose 8-4 To West Tenn Diamond Jaxx

West Tenn scored six times in the third innings as they rolled over the Biscuits, 8-4, on Thursday night at Riverwalk Stadium.

Diamond Jaxx starter Luis Munoz surrendered the lead to the Biscuits quickly by allowing a run in the first inning. Desmond Jennings led off with a double to left field. Rashad Eldridge moved him to third base with a ground out and Chris Nowak made it 1-0 Biscuits by plating Jennings with a sacrifice fly to right field.

Things fell apart for Biscuits' starter Heath Rollins in the third inning as the Diamond Jaxx plated six runs to surge to the lead. Greg Halman led off the inning with a single and Marshall Hubbard singled behind him. Rollins hit Mike Wilson to load the bases and then hit Johan Limonta to force home a run. David Espinosa singled to left and Eldridge overran the ball to allow two runs to score, giving the Jaxx a 3-1 advantage. Matt Mangini then capped the inning with a towering three-run home run to right field, putting West Tenn firmly in front, 6-1.

Rollins (8-8) retired after the third inning, conceding the six earned runs to take the loss. He surrendered seven hits, walked two and hit two more en route to his seventh home loss of the season.

The Biscuits got one more run off Munoz before he departed after five innings. The run came in the fourth as Nevin Ashley tripled home Joe Gaetti to cut the Jaxx lead to 6-2. Munoz (4-4) left following the fifth. He allowed two runs and six hits, walked two and struck out four.

West Tenn extended their lead against reliever Rayner Oliveros in the sixth inning. Mel Stocker tripled with one out and was brought home quickly by a Hubbard single. Limonta capped the West Tenn scoring with a single to plate Hubbard, running the lead to 8-2.

Cody Cipriano delivered an RBI single for the Biscuits in the eighth inning, and Nowak finished the scoring with an RBI single in the ninth, but Joe Newby finished out the win for West Tenn as the Diamond Jaxx leveled the series at a game apiece.

Game three of the series is scheduled for 7:05 PM on Saturday night at Riverwalk Stadium. RHP Aneury Rodriguez (4-10, 6.01) will make the start for the Biscuits against RHP Dan Cortes (0-0, ---) for West Tenn.
