2011 Draft: Preliminary 1st Round Order

With the regular season wrapped up, we now know the preliminary order of the 1st round of the 2011 draft. There will be 33 picks in the 1st round next year due to three teams failing to sign 2010 1st rounders.

This order may change as teams sign Type A free agents. Team with picks in the top half of the first round (down through #18 Oakland) have protected picks, meaning if they sign a Type A they will not lose the pick to the player's former team. Teams in the bottom half of the round (beginning with #19 Detroit) are not protected and will lose their pick if they sign a Type A free agent. The three comp picks (#7, 10, and 15) are also protected picks.

  1. Looking at compensation picks:
    - Angels, A's, Mets, Cubs, Astros and Nationals (all possible landing spots for Crawford/Soriano to me) picks are protected.
    - Tigers, White Sox, Red Sox, Braves, Giants, Phillies and Yankees picks are not protected!

It's a shame that the 1st Angels pick is protected! ;-(
