  1. great numbers in past ten games for some biscuits:

    .297 37 6 11 1 0 4 6 2 5 0 0 .333 .649 .982

    .250 36 7 9 2 0 4 12 1 4 0 0 .256 .639 .895

  2. I saw the GCL game, and really enjoy how they play. It is always fun for me watching Joe Alvarez run a team. Constant pressure on the pitcher by baserunners pushing every lead, and the pitchers get the ball & throw it without a great deal of time between pitches. Aggerssive at the plate & in the field, and constant teaching after situations.

Game highlights: Suero (tall LHP) looked good attacking the corners, only mistake was a 400 foot bomb by some kid named Gedman, Morillo made a great backhand/leap/toss play on a ball up the middle, Goetzman really got on top of the ball and squared it up, and although I have only seen him in one game it seems Harris is going to be easy to like, overdrafted or not.

  3. No story today, storms knocked out power yesterday evening and again overnight, so use this thread for today's discussion.

Liked your idea for a name Jim, "Under the Ray-dar" is good. Enjoy all of your comments too. Maybe you should start writing here, you already have a good name for it! Seriously, if anyone would like to write just drop Kevin or I and email. Doesn't have to be every day, just whenever you have something good to share, like Jim does w/ the GCL and his recent trip to see HV.

I think I'll keep Touch Em All Time, not afraid of Alyssa. If she doesn't like it then we can just 'rassle for it. :)

The column was going to focus on all of the transactions anyway, and BurGi has already covered those quite well. Just to make sure every saw the complete list, here is what I have, Depth Chart will be updated this morning:

C David Wendt activated by Montgomery
C Nevin Ashley from Montgomery to Durham
LHSP Matt Moore from Montgomery to Durham
RHP Jim Paduch from Montgomery to Durham
Alex Cobb from Durham to Tampa
Alex Torres from Durham to Tampa back to Durham
C Robinson Chirinos from Durham to Tampa
C Jose Lobaton to Tampa DL w/ sprained left knee
RHRP Juan Cruz to Tampa DL w/ right groin sprain
RHRP Adam Russell DFA's by Tampa

Great to see Moore move to AAA. Funny how long he had to wait and the same day Paduch also gets promoted after being signed out of indy ball in June and only going 1-4 w/ 4.96 ERA.

Couple of injuries in last nights game for Montgomery: Vogt left after taking a foul ball to the jaw, x-rays today; and Barnese left with a blister on his foot.

In ex-Rays news, Fernando Perez signed with the Mets after being released by the Cubs. He has been assigned to AAA Buffalo Bisons. Mitch Talbot has been sent to AAA by the Cleveland Indians.

Another funny, my Name That Minor Leaguer was going to be Paduch, thought he would be a hard one. Trivia was harder, I'll save it for tomorrow. The Hot was going to be Julio Cedeno again, went 3-5 with a 2B and 2 RBI, now hitting .300 on the season for the Hot Rods. Also a #personalcheeseball.

Unless this heat kicks up more bad storms should be back to normal tomorrow.

  4. Depth Chart is updated as of now, through the Dane De La Rosa callup. Should be more moves coming. I have Montgomery with 3 starting pitchers, so should see some spot starts with relievers coming up and probably a callup from Charlotte, or 2. Big worry is catcher, with all the moves in Tampa and Durham I have it as:

    Tampa: Shoppach and Chirinos
    Durham: Ashley and Albernaz
    Montgomery: Vogt and Wendt

Haven't heard about Vogt's xrays yet, if they are bad... oh my. Wendt is ok in an emergency, but not everyday, and not all by himself.

Thomas, Acosta and Jefferies are in Charlotte, look for Thomas if Vogt is hurt, one of the others if not hurt.

Bailey, Torres and Castillo are in Bowling Green too, would expect Castillo to move up as a reserve in Charlotte if necessary.

We'll just have to watch for moves on the pitchers, but Montgomery needs help in the next couple of days at most.

  5. Have you seen O. Hernandez's line today? 4/5 including 1 double and 2 home runs. He now has 19 home runs on the season, more than 3 other teams' total I think. If I calculate correctly, his season line is .419/.469/.796. He has 25 BBs in his 211 PAs and 31 Ks.

I wish I could find something to analyze what all of this means. Are there scouting reports? Is this a mirage due to the league?

  6. Doug - with Bowling Green having already qualified for the post-season, and Charlotte contending in the second half, combined with the Rays hesitance to make moves unless they are forced into them (i.e., because of an injury), I would be suprised if any key pieces from either team are moved. If Vogt is out for an extended period, I would expect Jefferies to move up, and not Thomas. That would not necessitate a corresponding move from Bowling Green, at least at the catcher position.

  7. Any chance there will be any changes with the Renegades roster?
