Tuesday Notes

Peoria JavelinasIn the Arizona Fall League yesterday the Peoria Javelinas beat the Mesa Solar Sox 13-9. Rhyne Hughes was 2-5 (double, homer) with 2 runs scored, an RBI, and 2 strikeouts. Mike Wlodarczyk pitched 1.1 innings in relief, giving up 4 earned runs on 4 hits with a walk and 3 strikeouts. The Javelinas (12-17) play the Solar Sox (18-11) again today at 2:35 eastern.

BA reports the following Rays transactions:
Released: RHP Josh Johnson, RHP Jason Ragan, LHP Brian Henderson, 2B Seth Dhaenens, 3B Jeff Carroll, OF Jason Appel (our 22nd round pick in the 2008 draft), OF Garrett Groce.
Granted free agency: C Michel Hernandez.
Removed from 40-man roster: C Michel Hernandez.

Rays Index takes a look at how much our pitchers were used in 2008 and what that means for next year. The biggest concern is Matt Garza, followed by James Shields and Edwin Jackson.

The Bowling Green Hot Rods (A) announced the hiring of their radio broadcaster for the 2009 season. Tom Gauthier will serve as 'The Voice of the Hot Rods' on 1340 WBGN, The Ticket. Hot Rods games will also be on the internet at bghotrods.com.

On a lighter note, someone has been putting powdered Kool-Aid in peoples shoes in the clubhouse. The other day, Ryan Reid's feet were stained red after wearing a pair of spikes that were "cherry flavored". He is still trying to find the culprit.
