Minor Moves: Acosta

Catcher Mayo Acosta was sent to the Montgomery Biscuits from the Durham Bulls. The move was a result of Stephen Vogt being optioned from the Rays yesterday. Acosta is hitting .258 with 8 doubles, 4 home runs and 17 RBI's in 31 games split between Charlotte and Durham this season. Acosta is in his sixth season with the Rays organization after being signed as a non-drafted free agent in 2006.

  1. Is there any thought in the organization to develop Vogt as a catcher, or have they completely given up on that, and he will remain an outfielder?

  3. More important is what the corresponding move at Montgomery will be. Three catchers (Thomas, Wendt and Acosta) is one too many. Allen should be on the move soon, and Jennings will begin rehabbing tonight in Port Charlotte. Let the games begin!

    2. Yep, just got a Media Advisory from them that he'll be in the lineup tonight and how to schedule interviews and so forth. Great news that he's close to being back with the Rays.

  4. Yea port charlotte is about to have some moves too. Bailey should be back soon (He is already playing games in XST) And Nate Gracia shouldn't be long either. Curious to see what will happen.

  5. I am surprised they did not move Mark Thomas down in this shuffling of catchers. He is clearly having a hard time with AA pitching. (BA .211) (OBP .310) (SLG .286) (OPS .586). He strikes out 27% of his PA, which tells me he is not ready for this level. I would like to see him get going down in A+. You have love this kids defense but his bat needs to come around.

What do you guys make of this? Are they giving him until the break?
