Open Thread: Roster Talk

We don't know when affiliate rosters will be announced, but they will be posted as soon as they are received. The final minor league Spring Training games are tomorrow against Baltimore, with the A/A+ squads at home and AA/AAA on the road. Opening day for all four full-season affiliates is Thursday.

The last official roster moves were the releases of OF John Shelby (Montgomery in 2011) on Tuesday and 3B Julio Cedeno (Bowling Green in 2010-11) on Wednesday. Oh, and RHRP Matt Bush has been placed on the restricted list and removed him from the 40-man roster, which is now at 39.

Updates will be added here or in the comments.

UPDATE: Here are the career minor league stats for OF Kyle Hudson, acquired Saturday evening from the Rangers for future considerations. He was drafted by the Orioles in the 4th round in 2008 and signed with the Rangers this January. He also had 28 major league at-bats for the Orioles last September. Note his SB and HR numbers:

  3. Very impressive. Tyler Goeddel made Hot Rods too, per a tweet. Not surprised, he was raking when I saw him.

  7. Jeff Malm, Ryan Brett, Matt Rice, Juniel Querecuto- all going to Bowling Green. Anyone know about Sale and Leonardo Reginatto? Also, Austin Hubbbard, along with Jason McEachern will, again, be going to Bowling Green. Riccio Torrez and Grayson Garvin are jumping all the way up to Port Charlotte. Where is the pitcher named Rivero from?

    1. What about lyerly? Anyone heard about where he is going? I though he might go to bg but haven't heard anyone say that?

    2. Torrez was very impressive, not spectacular but solid at the plate and at 3B, so his jump to Charlotte doesn't surprise me.

  9. Murrill and scelfo were released this morning,

    1. That is surprising. Scelfo was protected over the winter and was a versatile player. Although Merrill was hurt he did show promise. I would be surprised if both guys aren't picked up quickly.

    1. What? He is almost 24 they aren't going to even give him a chance a full season? Wow surprised he didn't just get released. It looked to me like he had a good year last year in hv. That's interesting.

  11. Murrill released???Shocked, and what lousy timing- the day before they were to leave Port Charlotte. What is TB thinking???

  13. Any other releases?

  14. It looks like TB's putting an awful lot of stock into their top 2010 and 2011's draft picks. I wonder how many of these young players will really pan out. I've never seen so much "level skipping." as this season. What happened to walking through the ranks? Players even skiping short season altogether. Result? Releasing players like Murrill, Church, Cedeno etc.Tough to understand.

    1. I think Wrigley will stick with the AAA group. That means at least one more release (can't see anyone in the AAA group as listed in the Depth Chart going to Montgomery).

  22. Murrill may be the most shocking release of the spring! I mean wow! A kid like that who plays that hard and has that much speed, it's just a shame! I hope someone picks him up, he deserves so much better! And also to release him the last day of spring so other teams can't pick him up! Hmm just shake my head at that one.

  23. Rays have acquired OF Kyle Hudson from the Rangers. He was a 4th round pick of Baltimore in 2008, signed by Rangers this January. Had a September callup last year with Orioles. I put him at AAA. In four professional years he's stolen 119 bases in the minors, with 40 or more the last 2 years, but he's never hit a HR. Yet another lefty bat for Durham's OF.

  24. Doug - according to Stacy Long (quoting Rays' Assistant Farm Director Chaim Bloom) the AAA and AA roster limits have each been expanded to 25 players. Just wanted to let you know so you can update the Depth Chart data.
