  1. As I said in a comment on another post, there's a numbers problem at the higher levels. There are now 14 pitchers listed at AAA in this blog's Depth Chart. For both pitchers and position players, the only way forward is to RELEASE some current ML (and current/prospective AAA and AA) players. They can't keep everybody, unless they want to gut the lower levels of age/experience-appropriate talent and move older guys down. I wish I could believe this is not on the table, but when an organization loses one guy (Kotchman - who they made no attempt to resign) and signs three potential replacements (Pena, Miranda and Mangini), what is a fan to think? Not to mention, what is a guy like Wrigley, who didn't even get a much-deserved invite to ML camp, to think? And don't even get me started about the outfield - that's a mess, too.

  2. The outfield is ridiculous.

  3. Anon, I believe the plan is to play Mangingi at 3B and Miranda at 1B in Durham. Agreed on the pitchers, though.

  4. Mangini is one of five players sent to MiL camp after today's game vs. Miami, as reported by Stacy Long at his Biscuit Crumbs blog (he is on site in Port Charlotte this week). Also sent down were pitchers Jhonny Nunez and Romulo Sanchez, catcher Craig Albernaz and outfielder Brad Coon.
