The Rays organization report the following player moves that occured on 9/2 according to MiLB.com.
- Craige Lyerly has been promoted to the Bowling Green Hot Rods from the Hudson Valley Renegades.
- Andy Sonnanstine has been promoted to the Tampa Bay Rays from the Durham Bulls.
Lyerly had been reported to be moved to Bowling Green earlier in the week, but the move has now been made official by MiLB. He departed Hudson Valley with a .285 average with 2 doubles, a triple, 3 homer and 17 stolen bases in 50 games. Lyerly was the Rays 19th round pick from the 2010 Draft.
Sonnanstine returns to the Rays after spending ten games with the Durham Bulls. During that stretch, he was 3-6 with a 4.82 ERA and 35 strikeouts for the Bulls.
Lobaton was activated off the Rays DL too.

ReplyDeleteLyerly has the tools thats for sure. The question is can he find the correct way to use those tools. His speed is well above average and can for sure steal. However, sometimes on the bases paths he loses balance and makes too wide of turns. His swing has really improved since signing with the rays. In college lyerly simply just threw his hands at the ball, and it worked for him (in college only) Now that he actually drives through the ball he is having much more success. Lyerly also is great in the outfield with all his speed. That is one area he is not sloppy in which is impressive because he didn't play outfield till the minors. He also has a great arm. Maybe not for right, but he can definately throw guys out. He also, has some power for a small guy when he gets his swing down. You can tell that lyerly has always had the tools down, but never had a coach that really taught him how to use those tools. I mean he had a great college coach, but why is a coach going to change a swing or the way something is if it works for him. Now that he is in the minors and have some coaches that are willing to help him and be patient with him. He might become a great ball player. All I can say is this guy is going to be fun to watch. I think he has a few people rooting for him. I wish him the best.
