Weekend Open Thread

First of all, congratulations to the Hudson Valley Renegades on their New York-Penn League championship.  Check out the Poughkeepsie Journal for complete coverage.

Anyway, as you can tell it's been pretty quiet around the last two weeks. So what sort of coverage would you like to see this off-season, in addition to the usual top prospect stuff? All discussion about that and anything else is welcome in the comments.

  1. I am a frequent reader of Rays Prospects, but today, I'm really disappointed with RP's lack of coverage for the ONLY team to win a title in 2012- the Hudson Valley Renegades. I did go to the Poughkeepsie Journal website, but The Poughkeepsie Journal only allows a small amount of free articles. After that, you have to pay. So, since I had checked out the Renegades a few times this week, I could not get access to today's articles. Thus, no Renegades coverage online. Bummer

  2. The POughkeepsie Journal also wrote a story LAST SUNDAY about the Rays and Renegades renewing their Player Development Contract, and there's been no mention of that here on this site.

  3. Would like to see a recap of each team as to who performed well and who performed less than expected and where these players might end up next year as you see them, position players and pitchers.

  4. I agree that it has been very disappointing to have next to no RP coverage of HV. Do stats accumulated in the playoffs not get added to payer profiles? They have not to this point.

  5. Playoff stats do not count toward players' season totals

  6. I've been offline quite a bit lately due to personal issues the last few weeks (moving, transitions with school, work commitments, sharing one computer amongst three people, etc). So I haven't had the time to consistanly do the daily recaps. It wasn't in any way a snub at the NYP champion Renegades, just not enough hours in the day for me personally. But with that being said, I am going to try become more a regular again as things start to calm down. I'm still gonna be battling the single computer dilemma but everything else is settling down. I will be going a multiple part year in review of each affiliate as I have done in years past plus possibly bringing back the readers choice post season all-star team. Just bear with me as I get things going again.

  7. Looking forward to prognosticating next seasons depth charts. Maybe a post on what we think the Rays should do at the major league level ie. If I
Andrew... On that note, I think we should pick up the option on Shield(9 mil.), start Hak Ju in AAA at SS with Beckham at 2B in AAA and move up whoever starts to hit first. Keep Zobi in OF with BJ probably leaving, unload Niemann with Archer and Davis as insurance. Bummer that there is so little hitting at AAA but Hak Ju should help offense and defense once promoted. Hope Dietrich and Mahtook can help in 2 yrs. until current Bowling Green team starts trickling up. Sarasota Paul

  8. Bowling Green was supposed to be, "THE 2012 TB DREAM TEAM." But BG had some "bad apples" and even with good replacements, in the end, didn't do as well as projected. Hudson Valley should now be looked at as the TB's "2012 DREAM TEAM." Several 1st rounders were there- Guerrerei, Shaffer, Ames and O'Conner, although he could only dh. College picks like Dunn, Maile, Coyle, Rickard, Gantt, Garton, Harrison, Moshier, Floro and several seasoned high school picks from the past- Reginatto, DePew, Henderson, Molina, and more worked/played together as a team all season long, both on and off the field. They had a great chemistry. They never gave up, even if down by a few runs. Fans started to expect comeback wins, cause they happened so often. All these attributes led to one thing-the NYPL Championship. Yes, the Renegades will be THE only TEAM to receive the championship rings this year. Hats off to them.
